Replace global fear with a finite inventory
Mark what is essential, helpful, and removable.
Protect performance conditions
Sleep, food, movement, medication continuity, and recovery are part of exam preparation. Stop comparing daily completion percentages with strangers. Use your own timed work to choose the next repair. If the schedule consistently destroys sleep or functioning, reduce tasks or seek help changing the plan.
How do you handle severe anxiety when study advice is not enough
Contact a licensed mental-health professional, physician, law-school support office, or lawyer-assistance program when symptoms are severe or persistent. If you may harm yourself or cannot stay safe, contact emergency services or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the United States immediately. This course cannot provide crisis care.
Official supports and exam-day tools
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline says it is available 24 hours a day, every day, and that conversations are free and confidential. You can call, text or chat with a counselor. This site cannot diagnose or treat anything, so use it as a pointer and not as care.
ABA Standard 508 requires law schools to provide students with information on law student well-being resources, which its interpretation says include information or services related to mental health and substance use disorders. Contact your law school. NCBE's NextGen exam software also lets every examinee adjust font size, change the color scheme and toggle the timer display on or off.
NCBE says there are no scheduled breaks during either three-hour MBE session, and NextGen has three-hour sections. If long sessions raise anxiety, practice at that length in stages. Build up to a full session instead of starting there, and note what helps you stay steady.
A daily stop rule and a weekly check-in sheet
Set a stop time before you start each day, and treat it like an exam session boundary: when the clock hits it, you close the materials. A workable rule is no new material after 8:30 p.m. and no studying at all after 10:00. Choose the time in advance, since deciding at 9 p.m. is when tired candidates pick the wrong answer.
On Sunday, spend ten minutes on a five-line check-in: hours studied against plan, sleep on an average night, one thing that went well, one thing that drained you and one change for next week. If sleep falls under six hours for a week or the drained column repeats, cut the next week's hours by 10 percent before adding anything back. If anxiety is affecting sleep, eating or daily function, talk to a health professional; a study plan cannot treat that.
