Bar Prep Product Changes: Quimbee, Kaplan, NCBE Study Aids, and What Is Still Available

Answers to the confusing questions that come up when bar prep products change hands, get dropped or move to a new platform. Bar prep companies merge, retire products and move materials, and old reviews stay online long after the product changes. Verify the current offering on the provider's own site before you buy, and if you hold an older purchase, contact the seller about access rather than assuming it is gone. A review written two years ago describes a product that may not exist. Prices, features, exam coverage and even company ownership change, and search results reward old, heavily linked pages. When a page does not say when it was written and what it was reviewing, treat it as unverified.

01

Why old information misleads

The fix is boring and reliable: go to the provider's site and read what it says today, and take a screenshot with the date.

02

Quimbee

Quimbee is known for law school study videos and case briefs, and its SideBar videos are aimed at bar prep as a supplement to a course. As of the update date, Quimbee's own site directs inquiries about a full MBE course to BARBRI, so searches asking whether a standalone Quimbee bar review course is available should be answered from Quimbee's current pages, not old reviews.

If you were considering SideBar, ask what it covers and what it does not. Supplemental videos do not give you a schedule or writing feedback.

03

Kaplan

Kaplan's site says that it no longer offers California-specific bar preparation. Candidates in California should therefore confirm state coverage with any provider they are considering, including one that used to advertise it.

04

NCBE study aids

NCBE has moved its study aids to new platforms over time. If you bought materials earlier, including under a name you remember, check NCBE's study aids page and the account you purchased with. NCBE's site explains how to access materials and lists what is currently sold.

Do not use a copy of official questions from a source that is not NCBE or a licensed partner. Use the official page.

05

How to check a product before you pay

Look for four things on the product page: the exam administrations covered, the last-updated date, the refund policy, and whether the product can be used on the device you have. If any are missing, email the provider and keep the reply.
