Connecticut's July limit on repeat applicants
Under Article III-1(D) of the Committee's Regulations, effective October 27, 2025, an applicant with four or more unsuccessful attempts on the Connecticut bar exam may file an application only for the February exam. The Committee adopted the rule because of the growing number of July applicants and to manage its resources and workload, and it hopes repeat applicants will use the extra time to prepare.
Such an applicant is not barred from taking the exam in another UBE jurisdiction in July and, on a passing score there, transferring the score to Connecticut.

Connecticut's NextGen decision and who runs the exam
At its January 26, 2024 regular meeting the Connecticut Bar Examining Committee voted to adopt the NextGen bar exam beginning with the July 2026 administration. The Committee was established in 1891, and Practice Book section 2-3 provides for twenty-four members charged with deciding whether candidates are qualified for admission. It administers the exam, investigates character and fitness, and recommends to the court those who passed, have good moral character and have complied with the rules.

Connecticut's July 2025 results by law school
The Connecticut Bar Examining Committee posts pass rates by law school with first-time, second-time and third-or-later counts and mean MBE and essay scores. For July 2025 it lists 448 applicants and 259 passing, 58%. First-time takers were 356 and passed at 66% (234); the 92 repeat takers passed at 27% (25). Among applicants with a J.D. from an ABA-approved school, first-timers passed at 70% (224 of 319) and repeat takers at 30% (22 of 73).
Two Connecticut schools supplied most of the takers. The University of Connecticut had 91 applicants and a 79% pass rate (72), with first-timers at 82% (70 of 85); its mean MBE scaled score was 146.0. Quinnipiac had 104 applicants and passed 67% (70), with first-timers at 73% (64 of 88) and a mean MBE score of 137.0. Western New England had 48 and passed 50% (24), Roger Williams 22 and 50%, Purdue Global 19 and 47%, and the 30 applicants listed as foreign-educated passed at 13% (4). The rest of the 448 came from dozens of schools with one to a dozen applicants each, whose small counts move the percentages a lot.
The Committee's February 2026 sheet shows the winter exam is much smaller: 187 applicants and 60 passing, 32%. Of the 129 applicants with an ABA-approved J.D., 31 were first-time takers and 15 of them passed (48%), while the 98 repeat takers passed at 27% (26). By number of attempts, applicants on a first attempt passed at 44% (27 of 61), and the sheet lists applicants on their 25th attempt.
