Nevada bar exam: dates, fees and scores

Nevada bar exam: Jurisdiction-specific examination. Current state-drafted essay and performance specifications, not a uniform-exam format. Nevada's traditional exam (MBE plus six essays and two Nevada Performance Tests) is retired. Its last administration was July 2026. Every applicant from here forward uses the Nevada Comprehensive Licensing Examination ("Nevada Plan"), a three-stage system: a Foundational Law Exam (multiple choice, offered four times a year, available after a candidate's third law-school semester), a one-day Lawyering Performance Exam (three performance tests), and a supervised-practice requirement, all separate from a still-required MPRE. Confirm current stage fees and deadlines directly with the State Bar of Nevada.

NV · FROM THE BAR'S OWN PAGES

The end of the old Nevada exam and the start of the Nevada Plan

The Nevada Comprehensive Licensing Examination, called the Nevada Plan, is governed by rules that took effect on January 19, 2026, adopted by the Nevada Supreme Court in ADKT No. 629, filed December 18, 2025. The current Nevada bar exam, which is six Nevada essays, the MBE and two Nevada Performance Tests, was administered through July 2026, and the State Bar calls July 2026 the last administration of the current exam.

The State Bar lists registration for the December 2026 Foundational Law Examination, the January 2027 Lawyering Performance Examination, and the fall cycle of the Supervised Practice Program.

The four Nevada Plan components and when each can be done

An applicant must complete four components: the MPRE, the Foundational Law Examination (FLE), the Lawyering Performance Examination (LPE), and the Supervised Practice Program (SPP). The MPRE may be taken any time during law school, and a portal account may be opened any time after starting law school. The FLE and the supervised practice requirement become available after 42 credits. The LPE must be taken after graduation and is offered in January and June.

The character and fitness application may be filed once the applicant has completed three of the four components and registered for the last one. Licensing follows successful completion of every component and the character and fitness review. An applicant without a JD from an ABA-accredited school, who is not attending one, must first be approved by the Functional Equivalency Committee.

Nevada's six-year window and the rule for licensed attorneys

All components must be completed within a six-year window: not earlier than three years before the year the applicant passes the LPE and no later than three years after it (SCR 65 and 65.5). There is no limit on attempts within that period, but an applicant who does not pass every component in the window must retake all of them.

Attorneys licensed in other states still take the MPRE, FLE and LPE. For the SPP, an attorney with more than six continuous months of active, licensed practice in a U.S. jurisdiction within the last two years may be exempt, by submitting the exemption request form and getting it approved. Non-attorneys must complete both SPP components in the window.

Nevada's Foundational Law Exam pass rate and the last legacy exam

The State Bar of Nevada's results page reports the unofficial pass rate for the May 2026 Foundational Law Exam (FLE) as 76%. To pass the FLE an applicant must reach a scaled score of 75 or higher. The page says unofficial results for the July 2026 legacy bar exam would be posted on the page and on the Bar's social media accounts on October 2, 2026, the same day official results were to be emailed.

The page adds that after admission an applicant takes and signs the Attorney's Oath under SCR 73, but cannot do so until the Nevada Supreme Court has entered an Order of Admission. After the order the oath can be taken before any judge or notary in any jurisdiction, under Rule 44 of the Bar's Policies & Procedures.

QUICK ANSWERS

Nevada bar exam questions

Is the old Nevada bar exam still given?+

What are the four parts of the Nevada Plan?+

The MPRE, the Foundational Law Examination, the Lawyering Performance Examination and the Supervised Practice Program. The character and fitness application opens once three are complete and you are registered for the fourth.

When can a law student take the Nevada Foundational Law Examination?+

After completing 42 credits. The supervised practice requirement is also available after 42 credits, and the MPRE may be taken any time during law school.
