What the LSAT and the application file cost
LSAC lists LSAT registration at $253, which includes the LSAT Argumentative Writing sample. The Credential Assembly Service is $219, and each Law School Report is $45 per school. LSAC accepts fee waivers, and fees are listed in U.S. dollars.
What a change of date, a score preview or an audit costs
Moving your test date is free until the registration deadline. Up to seven days after the deadline a change costs $153, and from the eighth day after it through the day before testing it costs $253, the price of a new registration. A retake is priced the same as a first attempt, $253, and the writing sample cannot be bought on its own.
Score Preview costs $46 if you sign up before the test and $87 if you sign up after it. A Score Audit is $150, or $75 with a pre-approved fee waiver, and an official candidate score report is $50. LSAC no longer offers partial refunds of the CAS fee. Fees are charged in U.S. dollars, so international applicants may pay taxes or exchange-rate differences on top.
How to choose a date
Work backward from when you want to apply. Most schools review applications on a rolling basis, so an earlier complete file tends to help. Leave room for one retake before your target school's priority deadline. Scores arrive about three weeks after the test, and a later test date can leave you submitting late in the cycle. Our application timeline guide explains rolling admissions.
Deadlines that matter more than the test date
The registration deadline is the last day to ask for accommodations or a full refund, according to LSAC's schedule note, and accommodation requests take time to review, so start earlier than the deadline suggests. Registered test takers receive an email when scheduling becomes available. International administrations have different dates.
