Objective memorandum
- To / From / Date / Re
- Question presented if requested
- Brief answer if requested
- Discussion organized by issues
- Rule synthesis, application both ways, prediction
This MPT course covers the full method, from the first read through timed practice and review. Extract the assignment, synthesize a closed universe of law, organize a file, and produce the requested professional document in 90 minutes. Write audience, role, objective, product, tone, and every requested issue at the top of notes. Ignoring the task memo's audience or requested product. Start with the most authoritative or synthesizing source. Summarizing each case separately instead of synthesizing a rule. Copy required format and prohibited sections. To / From / Date / Re Extract rules, factors, burdens, tests, holdings, and decisive facts. Reading the file first and drowning in facts without a legal framework.

| Phase | Work | Advancement standard |
|---|---|---|
| Task control | 10 task-memo parsing drills | All constraints captured in 2 minutes |
| Synthesis | Two-case and statute-case rule exercises | One coherent rule paragraph |
| File mapping | Fact-to-element tables | Material facts and conflicts captured |
| Timed | 90-minute complete tasks | Correct product completed |
| Sets | Two consecutive MPTs | No second-task collapse |
The MPT gives you two 90-minute tasks, each with a File of facts and documents and a Library of legal authorities, and asks you to produce a work product such as a memo, a brief or a letter. On the legacy UBE the MPT counts for 20 percent of the score, and the MEE counts for 30 percent. Beginning with the July 2026 exam, Family Law and Trusts and Estates are tested regularly through the MPT rather than the MEE, through February 2028.
The skill being tested is closed-universe work: use only the File and Library, follow the task memo's instructions on format, and finish inside 90 minutes. Practice with released tasks, time yourself, and check your product against the point sheet, not against how it felt.
