BARBRI vs. Quimbee for the Bar Exam: What Happened to Quimbee's Course and What SideBar Videos Are Now

Quimbee's standalone bar course is gone after BARBRI acquired the company. What that means, what SideBar videos still offer, and how to replace the old budget option. You can no longer buy a standalone Quimbee bar review course to compare with BARBRI. A comparison site reports Quimbee ended its standalone course in mid-July 2025 after BARBRI acquired the company earlier that year, and Quimbee's site now describes itself as a BARBRI company. Quimbee's SideBar videos remain: more than 200 short videos of 5 to 7 minutes and over 800 multiple-choice questions, built to sit beside any bar course. Elite includes them.

01

What happened

Test Prep Insight reports that Quimbee discontinued its standalone bar exam preparation course in mid-July 2025 after BARBRI acquired it earlier that year. Quimbee's own SideBar page labels the company as a BARBRI company. Before it ended, the course cost $1,199 and listed 300-plus video lessons, 2,500-plus MBE questions, lifetime access and a money-back guarantee for students who completed 75 percent of the work and failed.

02

What Quimbee still sells for the bar

SideBar videos are short lessons, the site says 5 to 7 minutes each, covering every tested subject, with over 800 multiple-choice questions. Quimbee says they are built to boost any course. BARBRI's Elite tier bundles them, and Premium buyers can add them.

03

How SideBar is built

Quimbee's bar review page says there are over 200 SideBar videos covering every subject tested, and each video ends with a three-question quiz, which is where the more than 800 multiple-choice questions come from. The page says the videos cover all Uniform Bar Examination jurisdictions plus the California and Florida bar exams, and that they are meant to complement a bar review course and not to replace one.

That design explains the price question. A video that ends in three questions is a review tool for a single topic, not a study schedule, so it cannot be compared with a full course line by line. The page shows no price, so ask BARBRI for one before you count SideBar as a saving.

04

Why the comparison changed

The old comparison was a budget competitor against the biggest brand. That gap is gone. If you want a lower cost and a similar teaching style, look at Themis (listed near $1,895 to $2,995), AmeriBar (from $1,299) or a question bank plus free official materials.

05

Should you use SideBar with another course?

It suits candidates who want a second explanation of a difficult subject in a few minutes. It does not replace a study plan, essay feedback or a full set of practice exams. Add it if one subject will not stick, not as a default.

06

Old reviews to ignore

Reviews that rank Quimbee's course above BARBRI on price describe a product you can no longer buy. Check the date on any comparison you read.
