The short version
Premium is the full BARBRI course. Elite is Premium plus four supplements sold as one bundle. BARBRI's own comparison says the tiers differ in support, not in the standard of preparation, and that Premium buyers can add many of the same tools later at discounted rates.
Side by side on September 25, 2026
Both tiers listed the same core: 1,000 or more NCBE-licensed MBE questions or NextGen question sets, simulated practice tests with a pass predictor, an adaptive personal study plan, feedback on written assignments, short video lectures, print and digital materials, and 4 or more months of access. Both cover the UBE, NextGen UBE and state-specific exams.
- Premium: $2,099 shown, $2,999 crossed out (an intermediate $2,299 was also shown).
- Elite: $3,099 shown, $3,999 crossed out (an intermediate $3,299 was also shown).
- Elite only: AdaptiBar MCQ Simulator, AdaptiBar Writing Guide, CriticalPass flashcards, Quimbee SideBar videos.
- Both: 6-month access upgrade and coach-led strategy sessions sold as optional add-ons.
What the four Elite extras are worth if bought separately
BARBRI sells AdaptiBar on its own pages. It listed the MCQ Simulator at $495 (1,375-plus licensed MBE questions, adaptive sequencing, performance statistics by subject), the Writing Guide at $295 (released essays and performance tests with tutor tips), and AdaptiBar video lectures at $395, or $295 when bought with the simulator. Quimbee's SideBar page describes more than 200 short videos of 5 to 7 minutes and over 800 multiple-choice questions. CriticalPass sells printed flashcards with six months of digital access.
Adding the two AdaptiBar products alone comes to $790 at those list prices, before flashcards and videos. So the $1,000 Elite gap is not a rip-off on paper. The real question is whether you would open those tools. A Writing Guide you never touch is a $295 waste at any price.
What about Essentials?
Essentials is not on the 2027 pricing page as of September 25, 2026, but BARBRI's guarantee page still names it, and third-party reviewers describe it as a shorter, cheaper package (a list price near $1,999 and an 8 to 10 week window). Treat those numbers as second-hand and check with BARBRI before relying on them.
The one confirmed Essentials rule is in the guarantee: you must complete 75 percent of the course and show proof that you sat for the exam, and the free retake is a Premium course for the next administration in the same jurisdiction. If you are weighing a cheaper, shorter tier, read that condition first.
How the guarantee differs by tier
For Premium and Elite, BARBRI's guarantee page lists one free Premium retake for the same jurisdiction at the next offering, with no additional tuition. Supplements are excluded: the AdaptiBar products, CriticalPass cards and Quimbee videos are not covered, and neither is anything bundled in at enrollment. Retake students who want new hardcover books pay a $250 refundable deposit plus shipping. So Elite's extras are not repeated free on a retake.
A simple rule for choosing
Buy Premium if you study alone from a plan, do not know yet which extras you will use, or are paying for it yourself and need the lowest upfront cost. Buy Elite if you are a repeat taker who wants every format on day one, if you already know you learn best from flashcards and extra question banks, or if a price difference of $1,000 is easy to absorb. If you buy Premium and hit a wall on one skill, buy that single tool, not the whole bundle.
Before you pay
Screenshot the price and the tier contents on the day you buy, since the crossed-out numbers change. Ask which exam date and jurisdiction the price covers, when access ends, and whether an employer or school discount stacks with the sale price.
Common questions
What is the difference between BARBRI Premium and Elite?+
Elite includes everything in Premium plus the AdaptiBar MCQ Simulator, the AdaptiBar Writing Guide, CriticalPass flashcards and Quimbee SideBar videos. On September 25, 2026 the shown prices were $2,099 and $3,099.
Does BARBRI still sell an Essentials course?+
Essentials was not on BARBRI's 2027 pricing page on September 25, 2026, though the guarantee page still describes an Essentials retake rule. Ask BARBRI directly whether it is available for your exam date.
Is BARBRI Elite worth the extra money?+
It is worth it only if you would actually use all four extras. Bought separately, the two AdaptiBar products alone list at $790, so the bundle is fairly priced, but unused tools are wasted money at any price.
