What BARBRI itself claims
BARBRI's pages say that nearly 90 percent of its students who do the average amount of the coursework pass. Its pass-rate article explains that this is not a rate for all enrollees, and that it also reports students who follow its process score an average of 19 points higher on the UBE than those who do not use BARBRI, measured against a model built from LSAT scores and law GPAs at more than 30 law schools. The article does not say who is excluded from the count. Read the claim as marketing evidence, not a forecast about you.
What buyers report
BARBRI showed 4.1 out of 5 stars from 424 Trustpilot reviews on September 25, 2026: 57 percent five-star, 23 percent four-star, 9 percent three-star, 5 percent two-star, 6 percent one-star. Praise centered on structured materials, flexible study plans, experienced instructors and responsive support. The most common complaint was that practice questions differed from the real exam, followed by outdated lecture videos and incomplete coverage of some topics such as tax. Trustpilot reviews are self-selected, so use the shape of the complaints, not the score.
Where the question gap comes from
BARBRI includes more than 1,000 NCBE-licensed MBE questions and adds its own written questions. Licensed questions are past exam items, so they feel like the real test. Provider-written questions are built to teach and often run harder or differently phrased. That is why so many candidates add a bank of real released questions, such as AdaptiBar (1,375-plus licensed questions listed at $495) or UWorld's MBE QBank ($449 for 2027 access). If a bank of real questions scores you noticeably higher than the course questions, that difference is information, not a reason to panic.
A test for whether you need more
Finish the assigned work for two weeks, then set your accuracy on licensed questions beside your accuracy on the course's own questions. If both are rising and you are hitting the calendar, you probably do not need more. If licensed-question scores are flat after two passes through a subject, add targeted practice in that subject before buying anything new. If your writing feedback is the problem, add a tutor or graded essay feedback, not a question bank.
Who most often needs to supplement
Repeat takers, candidates who struggle with timing, non-native English speakers, and candidates in states with heavy local content usually need something extra. So do candidates who fall behind, because a course cannot be enough for material you did not do.
The cheap way to supplement
Start with the free official materials on NCBE's site and your board's released essays. Add one paid tool for one specific weakness. Do not add two more full courses.
Common questions
Is BARBRI enough on its own?+
For many candidates yes, since it covers every tested subject with licensed MBE questions and writing feedback. Candidates whose practice scores stall usually add real licensed questions or a tutor.
Do I need AdaptiBar with BARBRI?+
Not necessarily. BARBRI includes more than 1,000 licensed questions. AdaptiBar lists 1,375-plus and is bundled in Elite, so add it if you want more real-exam-style practice.
What do people complain about with BARBRI?+
On Trustpilot (4.1 stars, 424 reviews) the most common complaints were practice questions that felt different from the real exam, outdated videos and thin coverage of some topics.
