Best Bar Prep for the Florida Bar Exam: Part A, Part B and How to Pick a Course

Florida's Part A and Part B structure, scoring, fees and deadlines from BARBRI's state page, what BARBRI, Themis and Kaplan offer, and how to pick a course for Florida. Florida splits its exam into Part A (Florida law essays and multiple choice) and Part B (the 200-question MBE), weighted 50/50 with a passing average scaled score of 136 per BARBRI's page. Because Part A is its own exam, pick a course that teaches Florida law in real depth, and check whether a Part A-only package exists if you already have MBE prep. BARBRI, Themis and Kaplan (Kaplan lists Florida among its 25 states) all sell Florida courses.

01

How Florida's exam is built

BARBRI's Florida page lists Part A as Day 1: three essays in a three-hour morning session and 100 Florida multiple-choice questions in a three-hour afternoon session. Part B is a six-hour, 200-question MBE. It lists exam dates of February 23 and 24 and July 27 and 28, 2027, a passing average scaled score of 136 with equal weighting, an MPRE score of 80, and timely deadlines of May 1 for July and November 15 for February for converting a law student registration into a bar application, at $600 timely with added charges of $325 and $625 for later filing. Applicants who did not register as law students pay different fees, so use the Board's fee schedule and our Florida requirements page for the full amounts. Florida will administer the NextGen UBE with the July 2028 exam.

02

Why Part A drives the choice

MBE courses are similar across providers. Florida law is where they differ in depth. Ask each provider how many Florida-specific lectures, essays and multiple-choice questions it offers and how Florida essays are graded.

03

Part A-only options

Candidates who already passed the MBE elsewhere, or who plan to take Part B separately, ask about Part A-only prep. One forum thread notes Part A-only material has become more common, and the advice given there is to ask BARBRI directly. Verify eligibility rules with the Florida Board of Bar Examiners.

04

What the providers list

Themis lists a Florida bar exam page and study guide; Kaplan lists a Florida bar review course; BARBRI lists a Florida course and a multiple-choice question bank it describes as more than 3,000 questions. Compare each for Florida distinctions, not for the MBE.

05

How to study Part A

Pair each Florida rule with the general rule it changes. See our Florida guide for a method. Practice complete sessions of three essays in three hours and 100 questions in three hours, since stamina matters.
