The Last Month and Final Week Before the Bar Exam: What to Study, What to Skip, and the Final 48 Hours

A practical plan for the final month, two weeks, final week, and last two days: what to review, how many questions and simulations to do, and how to avoid last-minute mistakes. In the last month, shift to mostly timed, mixed practice and targeted review of your error log. In the final week, taper: light review of high-yield rules, a few timed sets and rest. In the last 48 hours, review a short sheet, prepare logistics and sleep. Do not change strategies now. Your goal is to convert knowledge into speed and accuracy. Most of your work should be timed, mixed practice with review, a full simulation or two, and writing practice. Use your error log to drive review. Add new material only if it is high yield and you are missing it repeatedly.

01

The last month

Use your error log to drive review.

02

Two weeks out

Keep the pace but start choosing. Review the rules you keep missing and the subjects with the highest question counts. Do at least one full timed simulation and review it the same day. Sort your remaining time between the MBE and writing according to where you are weakest.

03

The final week

Taper. Keep a steady routine, do a few timed sets, write a couple of essays and a performance test in outline form, and do a full rule review with your one-page sheets. A full simulation in the last week is optional and risky if it shakes your confidence. Many candidates skip it and do a shorter timed set instead.

04

What to review

Prioritize high-frequency rules, your own frequent errors, and short lists you must recall. Look at your attack outlines, your error log and any numbers you need to know. Do not try to learn a new subject.

05

The day before and the last 48 hours

Review a short sheet in the morning, then stop. Pack your bag, confirm your route and start time, and check your laptop if you are using one. Eat normally, avoid new foods and get to bed early. Some people sleep poorly the night before, and that is common and usually survivable if you slept well earlier in the week.

06

Between exam days

Do not reread outlines all night. Eat, rest, and glance at a short sheet for the next day's subject. Resist checking answers or discussing the exam with others.

07

If you feel unprepared

Almost everyone does. Feeling behind is not a reliable predictor of failing. Use the time to lock in what you know, practice finishing every section and keep your routine.

QUICK ANSWERS

Common questions

Should I take a full practice exam in the last week?+

It is optional. A full simulation can build stamina, but it can also shake confidence, so many candidates do one about two weeks out and shorter timed sets in the final week.

What should I study the day before the bar exam?+

A short sheet of high-yield rules and your most frequent errors, then stop. Prepare logistics, eat normally and sleep. Do not start new material.

How many practice questions should I do in the last week?+

Enough to stay sharp without exhausting yourself, such as a few timed sets across the week. The final days are for review and rest.

YOUR NEXT MOVE

What to do next

  1. 1

Write a one-page final review sheet from your error log.

  2. 2

Schedule your last full simulation at least seven days out.

  3. 3

Prepare your bag and route two days before.
