Diagnose before you buy
Request your score report from the board. Compare your MBE score, essay score and performance test score against the passing standard. A candidate who missed by a few points on the MBE needs different help from one whose essays scored low. If you can, look at your practice history: did your scores on licensed questions predict the result, or did they overstate it?
If you used BARBRI
BARBRI's guarantee page lists one free Premium retake for Premium and Elite students in the same jurisdiction at the next offering, with no additional tuition, and extended access within 12 months for Extended U.S. Bar Prep. Supplements such as AdaptiBar, CriticalPass and Quimbee SideBar are excluded, and new hardcover books cost a $250 refundable deposit. The Essentials retake requires you to have completed 75 percent of the course and shown proof of sitting. BARBRI's own comparison says Elite suits a retaker who wants extra reinforcement.
Options built for repeat takers
AmeriBar's site positions its course for at-risk and repeat takers with personal support, prior bar exam questions and small-group workshops, and its pass-or-money-back guarantee has conditions that rule out many repeaters, so read them before relying on it. Celebration Bar Review advertises a free retake for life until you pass and needs written terms. Helix offers a free retaker guide and free mini-outlines. JD Advising sells tutoring and an accountability program and reports that students who used private tutoring improved by an average of 26 points, a figure we cannot verify.
What to change this time
Repeating the same plan with the same course tends to repeat the result. Change one or more of these: swap passive video hours for timed questions and essays, add feedback from a person who grades your writing, cut the number of subjects you try to master and drill the highest-yield ones, and fix timing with full-length timed sets. Track your weak subjects by rule, not by feeling.
Budget and timeline
Check your board's retake limits and deadlines, and whether the fee is lower for repeaters. Ask providers whether a retake offer moves you to the next exam automatically or needs re-enrollment, and whether access extends. Our retaker plan guide lays out a week-by-week structure.
